JOB DESCRIPTION:

The University's College of Engineering seeks applicants for the position of Professor of Software Engineering. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate courses, contributing to the university's research mission, and providing service to the department and institution.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach the designated courses and perform the established teaching hours in accordance with the university regulations.
  • Preparing course syllabi and teaching materials, maintaining current course syllabi, indicating course objectives, and submitting them to the department head or dean and students. Syllabi should follow the university template as approved by the department head or the dean.
  • Assist with student advice and monitor student progress, advising students on matters regarding academics, curricula, and careers and holding regular office hours.
  • Commit to attending and teaching the curriculum in a timely manner and not to change the time and location of lectures without coordination with the department head or dean of the college. Planning in-class team activities and assignments; constructing and grading student assessments; and preparing examinations
  • Keeping students records and maintaining accurate records of class attendance and grades Submit accurate grade reports and other requested administrative information promptly according to college or department due dates.
  • Supervising senior projects and internships
  • Attend the departmental and college periodic meetings; contribute with ideas that will help to improve the scientific and administrative performance of the department.
  • Continually maintaining and improving the quality of the courses being taught and providing input for curriculum changes to improve the overall quality of education
  • Participate in research activities, academic counseling, and scientific committees as assigned by the college.
  • Submit all reports and documents required by EEC, such as course reports and course specifications.
  • Actively participate in the department’s, college’s, and university’s community service activities under the supervision of the department head.
  • Teach approximately 16 hours per week in the Management Information Systems program
  • Conduct research, with a focus on publishing in top-tier journals (10% of time)
  • Provide ample office hours and support for undergraduate students
  • Participate in department, college, and university service as needed

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ph.D. in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field
  • Proven track record of excellence in undergraduate instruction
  • Commitment to student success and the University's mission
  • Fluent in English language (spoken and written)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Significant industry or government experience in software engineering / software development, in addition to academic qualifications
  • Ability to incorporate practical, real-world applications into the classroom
  • Experience with curriculum development and program accreditation processes
  • Ability to teach a variety of courses within the Management Information Systems curriculum
  • Salary and Benefits:
  • We offer a one-year renewable contract (renewable subject to Dean/Director and student evaluation) and a competitive salary package based on academic qualification, rank and teaching experience as stated above.
  • Other benefits include: premium medical insurance coverage for the employee & dependents residing within the Kingdom, (spouse & 2 children below 18 years of age).
  • Transport allowance.
  • Round trip tickets to home country (maximum 4: employee, spouse and 2 children below 18 years of age) for annual leave with paid annual (summer) vacation of two (2) months, plus 2 local paid holidays of about 15 days each (as applicable).
